Mullaitivu police threaten to shoot Tamils over Maaveerar Naal commemorations

Mullaitivu police threatened to shoot Tamils after tearing down red and yellow flags hoisted for Maaveeral Naal commemorations.

The police, who have been threatening Maaveeral Naal event organisers across Mullaitivu, knocked down the entrance arch outside Mulliyawalai Thuyilum Illam. This is the latest attempt by Sri Lanka to repress Tamil memorialisation in the North-East.

Mullaitivu police also threatened to arrest the Tamils at Mullaitivu beach who were boradcasting songs that paid tribute to the tens of thousands of Tamil fighters who sacrificed their lives.

Over the last few weeks, Tamils in Mullaitivu and across the North-East have been making preparations for the day despite intimidation and surveillance by Sri Lanka's secuirty forces.
