‘You betrayed Tamil people’ – Effigies of Sumanthiran and Sritharan burnt in Jaffna

Effigies of former parliamentarians and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP’s Sivagnanam Sritharan and M A Sumanthiran were burnt in Jaffna yesterday.

The video footage of the incident was released and took place in Vadamarachchi East in Mulli - the hometown of Sumanthiran - featuring unidentified men who covered their faces with cloths. They read indictments of the TNA MP’s and slapped their effigies with sandals, before setting the effigies on fire.

One of the men said;

“Sumanthiran betrayed and deceived the Tamil people. Boycott Sumanthiran and Sritharan! Boycott Sumanthiran and Sritharan!”

Another man read;

“He took money from the Sinhala government and put an end to the pursuit of an international investigation into the Tamil genocide. His first violation is that he lied to the Tamil people. His second violation is that he thought so lowly of Tamil people. We need to give him the right punishment by showing him in the upcoming elections. We need to get rid of his representation for Tamil people.”
