‘International investigation despite repeated betrayal of India’ – Save Tamils Movement

The Save Tamils Movement has welcomed the move to set up an international investigation on Sri Lanka, and strongly rebuked India for its “repeated betrayal” following a vote on the resolution at UN Human Rights Council earlier today.

Speaking to the Tamil Guardian from Tamil Nadu, Senthil from the Save Tamils Movement welcomed the international investigative mechanism, however also expressed criticism over certain portions of the resolution, including on the implementation of the 13th amendment.

Speaking on India’s role, he went on to state,

“Apart from India supporting the Sri Lankan government during the war, India has consistently shielded Sri Lanka from international pressure and intervention. The 2012 and 2013 resolutions were water-downed by the Indian government.”

Addressing India’s decisions in the Council today, the co-ordinator of the Chennai based organisation said,

“India has supported Sri Lanka in opposing the paragraph 10 of the resolution and attempted to delay the debate on this resolution. India abstaining from voting is nothing but supporting the genocidal Sri Lanka state.”

Senthil concluded,

“Above all, we recognize the fact that this resolution seeking an 'international investigation' is the result of the continued struggle by Tamils worldwide, including Tamils in the homeland, the diaspora Tamils and Tamils in Tamil Nadu. History is on our side. Let us march towards the ultimate goal of Tamil Eelam, an historic necessity.”
