Harrow Tamil School holds Christmas celebrations
Harrow Tamil School held its annual Christmas celebrations on Sunday 16th December at Harrow Teacher's Centre. Violin students then showed off their skills as they delighted the audience with Christmas carols and other songs. Following the musical performances came dance performances by students who danced to a mix of modern cinema hits. The girls who had dressed up in traditional dress and make-up amazed the audience with their modernised eastern dancing, following similar dance routines that actresses use in films. Five dance performances were made by 11 students in total, each performance with different dancers, some of the songs they danced to included Chottta Chotta and Thaniye. Proceeding the dance performances students and parents entertained the audience by singing cinema songs, which was accompanied by tabla's and a keyboard providing background music. Songs included latest hits such as Vaseegara and an old time classic from the film Shankarabharanam. However, the highlight of the evening was the comedy drama, "London Kallatta," written and directed by Mrs.Sivasothy. The drama performed by parents of students, was written to express several common issues which arise within families such as: the stresses children and parents face during the 11+ exams, issues of food, and also the problems that wives and husbands have with their spouses. However, the drama was written in a humorous tone and this was clearly shown as the audience laughed uncontrollably through out the entire performance and several parents later quoting the actors once the performance was over, the famous quote being "errandu thorsai sarpadri-ungallo?". Following the drama, Father Christmas then paid a visit, giving all students presents, this was then followed by food. The floor was then cleared and music provided as students and parents hit the dance floor and spent the remainder of the evening dancing. "Another successful Christmas party, thanks to the great turn out in both past and present students and parents," as quoted by a parent member. |
