Chandramukhi with Jyotika and the Ra-Raa song are true hits. It has been dubbed into other south Indian languages and has fared will in all the centres. As all of us know, the film is still runniing strong at the family theatre of Sivaji Ganesan, Shanthi at Anna Salai. It is likely to be made in Hindi with the Big B as hero.

Second Time Round
Actress Trisha is currently busy shooting the remake of the Telungu blockbuster ‘Nuwostanante Nenoddantana’ into Tamil, which has now been re-titled ‘Something Something’ – Trisha played the lead heroine in the Telungu version and is again taking to the lead in the Tamil version. When the actress was asked if it was easier the second time round the actress firmly states “no”, explaining “I might have done the role in Telungu. But that doesn’t mean it is easy for me. It has been adapted very well for the Tamil audience and I have to do my bit. It was a super hit in Telungu and there is no reason why the success shouldn’t be repeated in Tamil.” Talking about the film, Jeyam Ravi, bubbling with enthusiasm states “we have shot the film in three different locations – urban, rural and foreign. Chennai, Athur village (near Dindigul) and London to be more specific. I am sure it will be a hit as it has all the ingredients of an entertainer.”

Third choice but still happy
Director Manirathnam and actor Mathavan have always had a close relationship, ever since the twosome joined forces for the film ‘Alaipayuthey’. Since that film, Manirathnam has always featured Mathavan as the lead hero in all his films, however, when the legendary director started work on his Hindi film ‘Guru’ he decided this time that he wouldn’t be using Mathavan for the lead hero. Instead the director has decided to caste in Amitabh Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan as the lead hero, and alongside Abhishek Bachchan will be Aishwarya Rai who will play the lead heroine. Manirathnam was then planning on casting either Vivek Oberoi or John Araham for the role of the second hero, however, due to their other commitments, they had both declined the role. So Manirathnam has now turned to his trusty star, Mathavan, to play the second hero and according to reports he is happy to have been chosen to take part in another one of Manirathnam’s film and has no qualms in playing the second hero.

Director Vasanth, who is currently busy shooting for his film titled ‘Satham Podathae’, which stars actor Prithviraj and actresses Padmapriya, took advantage of last weeks religious festivities which took place at Kapali Temple in Mylapore in Chennai, to shoot a few scenes for the film. Scenes were shot using the leads stars who were filming in the middle of the all the festivities on the busy streets of Mylapore. When the director Vasanth was asked why he used the crowded location to shoot scenes for the film, he commented “the advantage of shooting during the actual festival is two-fold. Launch of website
One of the most anticipated films of 2006, ‘Pudhupettai’, had it official website launched on Thursday 13th March. The official site, pudhupettai.com, features information on the film and has several downloads. The film which is being directed by Selvaraghavan, produced by Lakshmi Movie Makers, cinematography by Aravindh Krishna and soundtrack by Yuvan Shankar Raja, stars Dhanush, Sneha and Sonia Agarwal. Following the films ‘Thulluvatho Ilamai’ and ‘Kadhal Konden’, Selvaraghavan has once again called upon his brother Dhanush for another film which is far from the norm. Selvaraghavan’s forte seems to be that of portraying the darker side of the human mind, and conforming to this ‘Pudhupettai’ is no different – the film a tale of love, violence, greed and kindness will surely be another unique film for the director.

Latest actress to turn down the old man of Kollywood

Just like Aishwarya Rai turned down the offer to act in ‘Sivaji’ but accepted a Mani Ratnam film, Nana Patekar turned down the role of villain in ‘Sivaji’ but is to act in another Tamil film. Nana Patekar has always run away from south Indian regional films saying it would not suit him, but Lingusamy seems to have changed his mind. The photo session for ‘Bhima’ took place at Binny Mills recently. With close cropped hair, form fitting t-shirt and muscled body, Vikram posed with the dainty Trisha. Like ‘Pudupettai,’ ‘Pattiyal’ and ‘E,’ ‘Bhima’ is also about the Chennai underworld. A strong character is needed to team up with Vikram, so Lingusamy approached Nana Patekar, but he continued to shy away from Tamil films.

Arjun the producer
Handsome actor Arjun, has found a liking to producing films and has reportedly just purchased the remake rights to a Telungu blockbuster titled ‘Itlu Sravani Subramaniam’ an action films, which he is planning to do in Tamil. Though the star has purchased the film, he does not plan in starring in it nor is he looking to direct it, instead his associate Sakthi Paramesh will be directing the movie, whilst Arjun will focus on penning the screenplay. Keen on making the film a big hit, the actor-cum-producer is working hard at getting the script adjusted to suit the taste of the Tamil audience.

For fans he is The God

Milk and beer are set to flow like water as today is the global release of AVM’s ‘Thirupati’ featuring Ajith as hero. In lieu of Tamil New Year’s day, the film has been released in Chennai at Albert, Shanti, Sri Brinda, AVM Rajeswari, Santham, Maharani, Rohini and Mayajaal. After ‘Paramasivan,’ there still seems to be a thirst for Ajith films, as was evident from the crowds thronging the theatres. We made a round of theatres in the Vadapalani area to find out what the fans thought. There were flags and festoons, big cut-outs and blow-ups of Ajith with Rajinikanth and chief minister Jayalalitha. Some fans did pooja this morning at temples for Ajith and burnt camphor before his posters in the theatre. Sacks of coconuts were broken on the streets of Vadapalani. While coconuts were being broken, another group surmounted the 100’ cutout and poured litres and litres of milk down it in a milk abhishekam, making a river of milk run in the theatre.

Ulaganathan in Pori

Ulaganathan is playing an important role in Madurai Veeran, director Vincent Selvah’s venture. Githan Ramesh is the hero in this film. Ulaganathan is also doing a small part in Subramania Siva’s Pori. Ulaganathan climbing the mountain of success.
