Eastern University closed ‘indefinitely’ following attack by Sinhala students

Officials at Eastern University announced that the Vantharumoolai and Batticaloa campuses would be closed “Indefinitely” as tensions continue to be rasied, after an attack on security staff by Sinhala students last week.

All students have been ordered to vacate their rooms and hand over their keys by noon tomorrow, reports Daily Mirror.

Sinhalese students, who had been protested demanding accommodation and for academic suspensions to be revoked, blockaded the administration building and attacked the staff, claiming they had been ignored by the administration last week.

Two of the security staff were hospitalised, including one female member of staff, and they have continued to receive threats.
