American Tamils raise awareness of breast cancer in community

The Tennessee Tamil Sangam held an event last month to raise awareness of breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar saw Ms Marilyn Adams talk about breast cancer, describing its incidences and features to be aware of.

Experienced clinician Dr Nishitha Reddy meanwhile spoke on the different types of breast cancer and emphasised importance of early detection, whilst also answering questions from the audience.

“It was a great initiative,” said Rajkumar Subash, president of the Tennessee Tamil Sangam. Speaking to the Tamil Guardian he said the session was effective and played an important part in education the Tamil community.

“There was lot of materials, videos, presentation and sharing several experiences,” he said. “It was a perfect combination.”

“We received a lot of positive feedback and everyone is interested in doing more,” Mr Subash added, stating that more health topics would be tackled in the future.
