Sri Lankan military builds sports courts in Vanni camps

Kandyan dancers inaugurated the opening of a basketball court at a Sri Lankan army camp in Vanni last week, as the military continues to construct new buildings within its bases in the Tamil North-East.

A ceremony held last Wednesday celebrated the opening of a new office, which “will enhance the management of operation & administrative related matters pertaining to all ranks of the 61 Division,” according to a military website, alongside the basketball court.

The very next day, the military also declared open a newly constructed volleyball court complex at the same base, in a “splendid opening ceremony”.
