Japanese navy ship arrives at Trincomalee as defence minister visits Colombo

A Japanese navy ship arrived in Trincomalee yesterday as part of a goodwill visit to the island.

The ship, named "Ikazuchi”, was welcomed by the Sri Lankan navy, with the crew scheduled to take part in “a number of events”, according to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence.

The visit comes as Japan’s Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera met his Sri Lankan counterpart in Colombo earlier today, marking the first time that a Japanese Defence Minister is visiting Sri Lanka.
