Batticaloa residents protest against corrupt local officials

Batticaloa residents protested against the current District Secretary on Monday, with locals calling for her transfer following accusations of corruption.

The protestors called for all corrupt officials to be turfed out of the district’s government positions and also demanded that the proposed transfer of two other government officials be revoked.

The protest began on Tuesday morning in front of Mahatma Gandhi Park, with protestors marching through Batticaloa town to end up in front of the District Secretariat.

The protestors handed over a petition with their anti-corruption demands to Tamil parliamentarians S. Yogeswaran, S, Viyalenderan and G. Srinesan who had also participated in the demonstration.
