EU opens office in Kurdistan

The European Union will open a delegation office in the Kurdish de-facto capital Erbil reports Rudaw.

The Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced that the EU delegation office in Erbil aid the regions foreign policy and is being launched at a critical moment in Kurdish history.

The KRG Foreign Minsiter Galah Mustafa, earlier this month, welcomed the EU decision to open a delegation office in Erbil, stating,

“The EU and its 29 member states play an important role in dealing with the political, economic and security challenges facing the world.”

The EU decision came after a lengthy process of negotiation and documentation between the Kurdish Foreign Ministry and the central government of Iraq.

Thirty three countries now have now opened representative offices in Erbil, including five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
