Journalist beaten with iron bars in Jaffna

An independent journalist who wrote for the Tamil daily newspapers, Virakesari and Thinakurral, was attacked by two unidentified men in Jaffna on Monday, reports Global Tamils News and Uthayan.

The 29 year old journalist, Sivagnanam Selvatheepan was by Valai Puraperukki junction at around 10pm on his way home, when two men riding motorcycles followed him from behind, and asked him - 'are you a media worker'. Before he could reply he was attacked across the back of the head with iron bars.

He has been admitted to Manthihai hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The victim previously wrote for the Suthanthira paper in Vadamaraatchchi.
